Sunday, November 26, 2 pm – 6 pm

The public is invited to tour historic Estey Hall. Tour guides who previously lived in Estey Hall will share information on the restoration and history that lives within the walls of Estey Hall. A highlight of the afternoon will be the unveiling of (2) special commissioned visual art pieces of Estey Hall by Washington, DC visual artist, Roger James and NC Folk artist Nellie Ashford, alumnus of Shaw University. FREE

Monday, November 27, 6 pm – 8 pm

Location: Estey Hall Auditorium

Get into the holiday spirit at the Estey Hall tree lighting while enjoying an evening of jazz, spoken word, and traditional holiday sing-a-long. FREE

Tuesday, November 28, 6 pm-8 pm

Location: Estey Hall Auditorium

Commissioned artists, Nellie Ashford and Roger James will discuss their work with area artists, students, and collectors from the local arts community and public. FREE

Thursday, November 30, 6 pm -9 pm

Location: NC Museum of History, 5 East Edenton Street, Raleigh, NC 27601

The inaugural lecture will feature a nationally recognized speaker (TBA) in the auditorium. A pre-lecture reception will be hosted in the Museum Lobby. Invitation Only (250 capacity)

Theme: “Turning Obstacles into Opportunities” Post-pandemic, we have all become more adept at pivoting to face challenges as they have come along. As we look toward the future, our speakers and panelists will share options for becoming changemakers and turning obstacles into opportunities. An evening of music, dance, vocals, and spoken word featuring Shaw University students, faculty, and staff in the historic Estey Hall auditorium celebrating the triumphant spirit of this institution of higher education. FREE
